Genovation Cars will soon be taking orders to convert Ford Focus cars from model years 2000 to 2004 to electric vehicles. This conversion product will be called the G1. The estimated conversion base price will be $22,000 plus taxes.
Genovation can modify the Focus sedan, wagon or hatchback for the same price. Initial buyers must reside in the Mid-Atlantic region. The company can provide a suitable Ford Focus platform for under $6,000 or customers can supply a Focus they already own, provided their car is in good condition and has not been in an accident.
Here's how it works:
- Genovation will require a $2,500 down payment.
- Conversions will require approximately five months time.
- Standard batteries are AGM lead acid batteries.
- Optional lithium iron phosphate battery pack will deliver roughly twice the range (additional cost currently estimated at $12,000)
- An optional onboard genset to convert the vehicles to series plug in hybrids is in development. All Genovation G1's will be easily retrofitted with this future option.
